The Cheshire High School Marching Ram Band started 2007 off on a high note, winning four major awards at a Florida competition associated with the Outback Bowl. Cheshire won first place in the large school group for both the Outback Bowl parade and field show competition over the weekend leading up to the New Year's Day college football game between Penn State University and the University of Tennessee in Tampa, Fla. The Ram Band also had the highest score among the 18 teams competing in both the parade and field show competition, which earned Cheshire a pair of grand champion titles. Winning the grand championships earned Cheshire the right to perform its field show as part of pre-game festivities at the Outback Bowl game. The Ram Band defeated marching bands from high schools in Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin to win its awards. Cheshire's 110 musicians and color guard members and the other high school bands took part in a massive half time performance at the game. The Ram Band has been part of a number of high profile events over the past 10 years, including the 1996 Presidential Inauguration, the 1999 Tournament of Roses Parade, and the 2000 Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. |
