Happy Sunday and welcome to this week’s update!


You should have received an email from Mark Nowicki and Maura Murko yesterday regarding the Train Show.  Thank you to the students and parents who have already signed up.  We do need help to ensure this event is a success.  The link to the sign-up for parents is:  http://www.ramband.com/band-parents-association/parent-volunteer-sign-ups


Click the link and go to the Train Show November 22 to sign-up.  Thank you to Jessica Nowicki for taking a photo and writing a press release to send to the local papers to advertise!  This show is a band tradition and has been a great fundraiser for the program. Let’s keep it going!

The Annual Band Banquet will take place on Thursday, December 3rd at 6:30 pm at the Aqua Turf in Southington.  Forms will be up on the ramband.com website by tomorrow.  Please give it a day for it to be loaded.  If you do not see the form or have trouble accessing it by Wednesday, please email me and I can send it.  I cannot send the form over charms email to all at once – technology!


The banquet is free for the band members.  For parents, siblings or other friends and family the cost is $50.00 per person.  Meals are served family style but you may order a vegetarian meal as indicated on the form.  Please complete the form and return it to the forms box by November 25th to RSVP and make checks payable to “CHS BPA.”


We hope that you will come and enjoy this memorable event.  Each student receives an award depending on the number of years of participation in the band.  And there is a showing of the famous band video!!!  It is a night for students, parents and family members to reflect on the season and enjoy some fellowship together – without having to march, move equipment or work!!


Students and parents:  We are looking for candid shots of band members and instructors taken during band camp and the season to be included in a slide show that will be played before the banquet program begins.  The slide show, band video, and special presentation will be on CD that each band member will receive.

Our next BPA Membership Meeting will be on November 24th at 6:00 pm.  The band does have a rehearsal that night for the show on Thanksgiving Day at the football game.  We will recap the fall season and discuss the next several months schedule for events, fundraising, scholarships, nominating committee, and planning.  Though the competitive season has ended for the marching band, we have our winter programs, jazz program, and some activities for the other bands we support (symphonic, etc.).  We hope to see many of you at the meeting!


Photos and Nationals Merchandise:  Photos of the full band were taken after the performance at Nationals.  There were also some candid shots taken from the field by USBands photographers.  Below is a link to the site where you can view and purchase the photos.  Just type in your band member’s last name and it will bring you to the photos for Cheshire.  If he or she did not complete a form that day, you can type in my last name  (Hendry) to get to the photos directly so you do not have to search the entire Open Class photos.  http://www.teamphotonetwork.com/QPPlus/SearchNames.aspx?EventID=%201742928&AccountNumber=2929


Pepwear:  Several of the band members mentioned wanting to get patches for band jackets as Pepwear ran out by the time we were able to visit the vendors.  There are also T-shirts and Sweatshirts available.  The patches are $7.00 and the other items range from $15-30.  The link below will take you to the page where you can order the merchandise.  http://shop.pepwear.com/usbands/


Upcoming Events:


Performance on Thanksgiving Day Home Game vs. Southington.  We have a good showing of parent support to get the band on the field that day – thank you!!  Below is the schedule for the day.  More information will be coming from Mr. Kuhner shortly.


8:45 am Marching Band change into uniforms

9:15 am Pep Band members not in Marching Band Report

9:30 am Form-Up Parade Block & march to field

9:45 am Assemble in stands - Perform National Anthem

10:00 am              Kick-Off - Perform Pep Band Charts during 1st Half

11:15 am (est)   Halftime Performance - Marching Ram Band

3rd Quarter - Break

2 Minutes Remaining on game clock in 3rd Quarter - Report back to stands

Perform Pep Band charts for remainder of game.

12:30 pm (est)   Collect all music stands, flip folders, personal items, & trash, then form parade block &

march back to Band Room

12:45 pm (est)   Put All Instruments/Equipment Away/Dismissed


Winter Concert December 10th at 7:30pm.  We will need 6-7 chaperones for the night.


Christmas Tree pick-up January 9th.  More information coming soon on details, schedule, and sign-ups. This is another opportunity for a good fundraiser for the Band!


Scholarship Committee – I have two parents (Pam Fielding and Qui Fang) who have volunteered to be on the committee.  I need 4 more to participate.  Please let me know if you can help.  The commitment is 2 meetings, the first to re-design the criteria and selection process in February and the second to complete the selection process in late March.  Mr. Kuhner and Mr. Ciasullo will be advisors on the committee and will attend the meetings.  I will provide a brief summary of the Scholarships at the BPA Meeting on the 24th.


Nominating Committee:  As part of our by-laws, we need to have a nominating committee established by March 1 to elect officers of the BPA and all of the Board positions except the President (two year term).  If you would like to be the chairperson of the committee or participate on the committee, please let me know.  I will provide more details on this at the BPA meeting and will also ask for a few of you to support the Board with a review of the by-laws and amendments to be voted on by the membership early in 2016.


Thank you once again for all of your time and efforts this year.  I sincerely appreciate your ideas, participation, patience, and support as we continue to grow our BPA organization.  I am looking forward to a great second half of the school year and to having some Band Parent fun!
