11-Feb-16: Festival/Clinic & Six Flags Invite

Dear Band Students and Parents,
An exciting musical event is planned for all Band members on Monday, May 9 and Friday, May 13, 2016.  We will have a guest artist/conductor work directly with our students in a workshop/clinic/rehearsal setting during our Band classes on Monday, May 9.  This workshop will be with Professor James Jackson III from The Hart School of Music, University of Connecticut, and the United States Coast Guard Band.  Professor Jackson is one of the most sought after clinician’s in the area, and we are confident that he will provide our students with an exceptional educational experience. 
And on the following Friday, May 13, 2016, Band students are invited to go to Six Flags New England, Agawam, MA, after school and into the evening.  Students who opt to go to Six Flags will need to pay for Park Admission, and Bus transportation @ $45 per student.  (Please note:  Students should plan to bring approximately $15 - $20 for dinner at Six Flags.)  This $45 fee is due by Tuesday, March 1.  Checks made payable to “Cheshire High School Music Department”.  Please include the word “Festival” in the Memo.  Attached is a payment form that should be placed in an envelope with payment and then dropped off in the forms box. 
All Cheshire High School Concert Band and Symphonic Band members are eligible for this Festival provided there are no issues concerning behavior in or out of class prior to the trip.  It is expected that each student will work hard to learn the music we have selected to perform at our Spring Concert and this Clinic Session.  Unfortunately, no refunds can be issued after May 2 to a child who develops a scheduling conflict or illness.
Parents interested in chaperoning should indicate that on the attached form.  If we have more interest than available chaperone tickets, names will be drawn on May 2 and all parents will be notified either way by May 5.  (Cheshire Public Schools requires a background check for chaperones.)
Please encourage your son or daughter to practice the music for our Spring Concert and Clinic.  Encourage them to maintain high expectations for themselves.  This event is a great deal of fun, as well as a lot of hard work; and a wonderful way to end a successful year of music making at CHS!
