Hello Band Parents and Happy Spring! I hope that all of you enjoyed a nice holiday weekend. It has been a while since my last communication and I wanted to send out a summary of some of the things that have been going on with our band programs since we last met. The machine is still moving; don't let my silence fool you! Remember that our financial status reports are always available on www.ramband.com for you to review at any time.
In the news:
We had another HUGELY successful Train Show earlier this month. Thank you to our team led by Maura Murcko - we had many parent and student volunteers help to make this day a success.
Our Superbowl fundraiser, led by Tina Allen, did very well. Thank you to the guard, band, and all of the parents who manned the tables at Bagelicious and Stop and Shop that day.
Our next fundraising opportunity is the Winter Program Exhibition Show at CHS on April 7th, doors open 6:15 and show starts at 7. Organized by Robin DeGennaro and our guard parents, the evening will showcase the winter show for both the Guard and Percussion Programs, Meryl Campbell feature twirler, and the CT Tiger Guard. Topping off the night will be an opportunity to make your own sundae! What is better than our band? Our band with ice cream!!! Purchase tickets from a guard or percussion member or at the door, send an airgram, place a shout out in the program, or just come out and have some ice cream! Once again, The Ram Band made the agenda at Town Council Meeting! We had a group of parents and students who went to the meeting to support the budget request for new uniforms. A special thank you to Jessica Nowicki for her impassioned speech about the importance of securing these funds for our band – before we are sending our kids out on the field in tatters! Thank you to Mark, Savannah and Avery Nowicki, Fran, Bob, Elise and Michelle Bowman, and John DeGennaro for supporting us at the meeting. I corresponded with the Interim Superintendent about all of the work the BPA does to support our music programs and the dollars we raise each year to that end. Great work to keep our interests out there and lets not stop until we get those uniforms!
The Bylaw committee, Tim Orcutt, Jessica Nowicki, Kirsten Gunther, and John DeGennaro met several times over the last few months. They presented a final draft document of the proposed bylaws, along with a suggested list of policies and procedures that should be put in place by the Board, to me last week. Some of the policies to be created and adopted are: Financial Controls Policy, Student Activity Account (aka charms account) Policy, and a Nomination Policy. The committee, the Board of Directors, and Mr. Kuhner will meet on April 6th to review and discuss the proposed document and policy drafts. The Board must approve by a quorum in order to proceed with taking these to the membership for vote. Our goal is to have a membership vote to adopt the bylaws on or about May 3, 2016. You will receive a copy of the proposed bylaws in advance of the meeting in order to review it in detail before you come to vote. Stay tuned for more information coming after the BOD meeting on the 6th. I thank this committee for the expertise they brought to the table to create this document for us and look forward to reviewing with the Board.
The Scholarship committee met on March 15th and will be meeting again in the next few weeks. The team, Yuan Ratliff, Pam Fielding, AnnMarie Kemp, Carolyn Bradley and I reviewed the application document, put together a new evaluation process, and drafted ideas to incorporate into a Scholarship Policy and Process document. The applications are ready for pick-up and we will begin the review process. Our recommendations will be reviewed and discussed as a committee, presented to Mr. Kuhner and Mr. Ciasullo for review and their feedback, and a final decision made by April 21st. I thank this committee for their wise counsel and ideas to create a thorough and fair process going forward.
For those of you who ordered Nationals apparel, I emailed all of you last week. I will be at the school tomorrow evening between 5:30 and 7:30pm. If you are not able to pick up your items at that time, please contact me to figure out an alternate plan. If you have not yet paid for your items, please bring that with you. Much appreciated!
If you have a balance due to the BPA for dues, participation fees or other expenses, please make sure to settle the balance as soon as possible. Both our Winter Guard and Winter Percussion have performances left this season. Check out ramband.com for information. Congratulations to both groups of students who have done an AWESOME job this season. Thank you to our instruction staff for all of the hours and talent you have given to keep our students performing.
To shorten my lengthy email, I have attached an updated BPA Calendar with dates, as I know them today. We will continue to update this document often as things move quickly with the big red machine. The calendar on ramband.com contains many of the fall dates I added to this document. I know that more will be coming! I am looking forward to seeing all of you back again for 2016-2017!
